Winter Ski Trips

Sign ups for the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee's winter ski trips begin at the October Ski Trip Signup meeting.

    Start the New Year with your friends or make new ones as you ski or snowshoe your way through the Keweenaw Peninsula with the Nordics.

    We will leave Thursday morning December 30 at 8 am and stop to ski in Wisconsin at Brown County Reforestation Camp near Green Bay (30 km of trails, chalet, and 3 km of snowshoe trails) or WinMan Trails near Winchester, WI (20 km of trails, chalet, and over 8 km of snowshoe trails). We will ski at several different locations in the Keweenaw Peninsula, which is the one place that almost always has snow even in poor snow years!:
    • Swedetown has 30 km of groomed trails , 5 ½ km of snowshoe trails, and a chalet with food for sale.  
    • Michigan Tech University has 35 km of superbly groomed , wide trails with a chalet and small warming hut.
    • Maasto Hiihto has 24 km of scenic, striding-only trails and chalet with homemade food. 
    These ski areas have both skating (except for Maasto Hiihto) and striding trails for all skiing abilities as well as snowshoe trails.

    Cost Includes:  Motor coach transportation, trail fees, and three nights accommodations at the Quality Inn & Suites in downtown Houghton with swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, free continental breakfast, and microwave and refrigerator in each room. Restaurants are within walking distance.  An optional group dinner will be offered.

    Save $20 if you register by 11/30/21. 
    You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to participate on this trip.

    Join our Hayward ski trip for some fantastic skiing on the Birkie Trail, Mukwonago Trail, and Tower Ridge ski trails from Friday, January 21 thru Sunday, January 23. 

    The bus leaves Friday morning at 8 am. We will likely be stopping on the way up to ski at Tower Ridge near Eau Claire with 17 km of ski trails groomed for striding and skating and suitable for all abilities. Tower Ridge also has 3 km of snowshoe trails and a nice chalet with indoor restrooms.

    We will ski the American Birkebeiner ski trails on Saturday with over 100 km of beautifully groomed ski trails including additional loops at the Hwy OO Trailhead. There is a large ski chalet with indoor bathrooms. There are additional trailside warming cabins along the Birkie trail. Snowshoe trails at OO are in the woods near the ski trails. Another area we might ski on Sunday is the Mukwonago ski trails with 20 km of beginner and intermediate trails for all skiing abilities.   


    Cost Includes:  Motor coach transportation, trail fees, and two nights accommodations at the Flat Creek Lodge in Hayward with swimming pool, whirlpool, free continental breakfast, Flat Creek Restaurant & Saloon, and microwave and refrigerator in each room. An optional group dinner will be offered.

    Save $20 if you register by 12/22/21. 
    You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to participate on this trip.

    Join our Minocqua ski trip for some fantastic skiing at Minocqua Winter Park and Nine Mile Forest from Friday, February 11 thru Sunday, February 13. 

    The bus leaves Friday morning at 8 am. We will be stopping on the way up to ski at Nine Mile Forest near Wausau. Nine Mile Forest, which is the home of the Badger State Winter Games, has about 30 km of trails groomed for striding and skating and suitable for all abilities, and 11 km of snowshoe trails. There is a nice chalet with ski rentals.

    We will ski at Minocqua Winter Park on Saturday and Sunday . Minocqua Winter Park has 86 km of beautifully groomed trails for striding and skating, including both flat and hilly terrain for all skiing abilities as well as 16 km of snowshoe trails. It has a large ski lodge with a café that serves a variety of excellent food, beer, and homemade soups, and has a well-stocked ski shop where ski and snowshoe rentals are available.  


    Cost Includes:  Motor coach transportation, trail fees, and two nights accommodations at the  Best Western Plus Concord Inn with swimming pool, whirlpool, free continental breakfast, bar/lounge, and microwave and refrigerator in each room.  Restaurants are within walking distance. An optional group dinner will be offered.

    Save $20 if you register by 1/12/22. 
    You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to participate on this trip.

    Sign up by 1/19/22 to guarantee a spot on this trip as all unfilled rooms must be released after that date.

    Join us for our popular ski trip to Valley Spur near Munising, MI.  

    We will leave Friday morning at 8 am and will ski at Brown County Reforestation Camp near Green Bay (30 km of ski trails, chalet, and 3 km of snowshoe trails) or at Valley Spur. We plan to ski Saturday and Sunday at Valley Spur Ski Trail with 45 km of trails that are some of the most scenic to be found anywhere. Valley Spur Ski Trail is in the Hiawatha National Forest outside of Munising MI.  Picturesque, 3-km snowshoe trails are also available, and a cozy log cabin. 

    Saturday is the annual “Taste and Glide” event (included in the trip price) that benefits Valley Spur. Lots of delicious food and beverages will be at several stops along a beginner trail as well as in the log cabin.

    Accommodations are at the Holiday Inn Express near Munising with sauna, whirlpool, swimming pool, free continental breakfast, and microwave and refrigerator in each room. 

    All ski areas have both skating and striding trails for all skiing abilities.

    Cost Includes:  Motor coach transportation, trail fees, and two nights accommodations at the Holiday Inn Express.  An optional group dinner will be offered.

    Special thing to remember is Saturday's annual Taste & Glide event. This is a popular end-of-the-ski-season event for both skate and classical style skiers.
