The easy way to view a multitude of fireworks without huge crowds is to go with us to Wisconsin’s State Fair Park in West Allis. That’s where the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee will be heading on Thursday, July 4. Here you can get a 180-degree panoramic view of fireworks from about 20 cities plus the West Allis fireworks right in front of you. Usually a concert band plays about 8:30 pm, and the West Allis fireworks start at 9:30 pm We hope to sit in the comfortable blue seats high in the bleachers at State Fair Park.
For those with difficulty walking, there is an elevator in one of the pillars that can take you almost to the top. So if you don’t find us near the top rows of the center section directly overlooking the band, call Paula at 414-243-3653. This is the 13th year of this outing led by Gary Braun and Paula Brookmire. Meet us by 8:30 pm, while it’s still light. Look for Gary and Paula, wearing red and blue. We hope you wear red or bring a flag. The restrooms are open and easy to use. Note that this is July 4, when most suburbs hold their fireworks. (Milwaukee’s downtown fireworks are July 3.) Call us to R.S.V.P.: (414) 527-0040. There is a parking charge. To avoid it, park near 85th St. and Washington St. (one-quarter mile north of Greenfield Ave.) and walk into the west entrance of the park and to the grandstand.
